What Does the Amazon FBA Calculator Calculate?

This calculator helps you model the economics of an Amazon FBA product in one place. Use it before sourcing, launching, repricing or reordering inventory.

How Amazon FBA Fees Affect Your Profit

Amazon FBA costs are not one flat fee. Your economics can include selling fees, fulfillment, inventory storage and other services or operating expenses. Referral fees can vary by product category, while fulfillment costs depend on factors such as size and weight.

That is why looking only at the product selling price can give you a misleading picture of profitability. A product that looks attractive at $50 may have a very different margin after marketplace and fulfillment costs are included.

Amazon Referral Fee

The referral fee is generally calculated from your selling price, with the applicable percentage depending on the category and marketplace. Check Amazon's current fee schedule for the exact rate that applies to your product.

FBA Fulfillment Fee

FBA fulfillment covers the operational work of picking, packing and shipping an order. The applicable fee depends on the product's fulfillment characteristics, including size and weight.

Storage and Other Costs

Inventory storage, inbound shipping, advertising, returns, preparation and other costs can materially change your final margin. Add the costs that apply to your business instead of relying on revenue alone.

How to Calculate Amazon FBA Profit

A useful starting formula is:

Net Profit = Selling Price − Amazon Fees − Product Cost − Fulfillment − Other Costs

For example, if a product sells for $50, costs $15 to source, and your combined Amazon and operating costs are $16.50, the estimated profit is $18.50 per unit. Your profit margin is then $18.50 ÷ $50 = 37%.

Use the calculator above to replace these example assumptions with your own numbers.

Amazon FBA vs FBM

FBA is not automatically the most profitable fulfillment method. Compare your estimated FBA economics with the cost of fulfilling orders yourself, especially for products with unusual dimensions, low margins or high storage requirements.
